St. Paul's Cathedral

A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols

December 17th, 2017 at St. Paul's Cathedral from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm

On Sunday, December 17th at 4:00 p.m. the Cathedral Choir will join with our Bishop for the Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols.

This traditional service dates from Truro Cathedral, England in 1880 and was later adapted for use at King’s College, Cambridge from where it is broadcast every Christmas Eve at 4:00pm.

The Nine Lessons recount the story of the Messiah, from God’s promise to Abraham to the birth of Jesus; the choir sings music by Whitehead, Owens, Fankhauser, Guerrero, Martinson, and Trepte; and four congregational hymns, sung in traditional language, complete the repertoire for this moving celebration of our redemption.

All are welcome and invited.

  • Location: St. Paul's Cathedral
